I have both VLC and mpchc, but I find VLC looks better with lower rate video and I use it more often.

However, I ripped my Lord of the Rings to DVD-9 on my HD with DVDFab HD Decrypter (ie. I assume no encoding) yesterday. It plays a bit choppy in places with VLC but not mpchc. I wasn't expecting this.

I'm using an i3 with 4 Gb and no frakkin' codec packs. My monitor is 60Hz. And I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue with VLC.

  2. Maybe it's a problem specific to that version of VLC ? Did you try newest version ? Or if you are, did you try older version ?

Ripped DVD's to HDD play ok here in VLC, but I'm using an older version

    It's 1.1.0, not that old.

I've seen the release of a newer version in the Tools section before but it seems to be beta and I don't generally do beta.

  4. To debug, You can download and test out a portable VLC version , so it doesn't screw with your windows install/drivers/registry

Thanks, but I'm not really that interested in debugging if I have another program installed that works.

OK, problem solved. poisondeathray, you were right about versions. As I've been told a number of times by knowledgeable buddies, VLC is kind of buggy. They're right.

Uninstalling 1.1.11 and installing 1.1.05 works fine. Plays VOBs without a hitch.

Apparently I shouldn't stream from the web with this version, which I don't do anyway.

Except the interface is now flaky.

My new solution ... mpc-hc is now my standard player. VLC is what I'll use when nothing else will play it.

Just in case anyone's still interested...
