I just got this light, and it's REALLY good.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZYJIHM/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

This type of HPLED gives off a very neutral light, and it's variable. I was skeptical at first, but the proof was in the pudding. That's why I'm telling you about it. The light is VERY natural and extremely even.

Normally, what you see for camera LED lights is a whole bunch of old-style LEDS in a panel. These are no good, but cheaper. They don't throw the light far enough. The newer way to do LED lighting involves pushing the milliamps higher and using a heat sink in a vented enclosure.

I don't normally use a flash, or fill light because both are a hassle, and I can just change exposure more easily. But there are times when a fill light would be nice to chase away shadows or make something pop more. This LED light is perfect for that.

And this is the new form factor. The square panels on top of the camera are gauche now.

Watch out for the cheaper 3-LED models, this one has 10.

To get the cheaper price, go into "other buying choices", and choose the Red Star Mall.

    P.S. I'm not spamming. This is a genuine heads-up.

I discovered something cool. Since the LED's are not hot, you can put any color filter you want on it. I have some colored plastic tabbed dividers, like used in a ring binder notebook, and I cut out inserts for the light. Works great!

I can throw blue, green, red, orange, whatever. I haven't filmed it yet, stay tuned.... I'm thinking native duotone?

  5. Bud, have you tested that light using it a distance of say, 20-30 feet from subject at night? Could I use it on my game camera with the proper light switching electronics? I would want the light to go on when camera sensor detects movement of Bear, Cougar etc.

It has a 40' throw, and you can mount it to a tripod, it has a handgrip with a screw in socket on the bottom.

It has a socket for an external power supply, like a plugin transformer, so I suppose you could leave the battery off, turnit on, and switch it on/off from a relay.

It's not waterproof though. And it's not heavy duty.

  7. OK thanks, the not waterproof thing will kill that for me for exterior use here in Oregon. I get 6 feet of rain here a year.
