  1. I need some advice concerning how to set up a new widescreen. I don't have a wall to mount it to and do not like the short little table that came with it that I'm supposed to mount the tv to.

Has anyone ever built there own mount. I'm thinking of using an old laminated counter I have and bolting a joist hanger to it. Then I thought I could use a 2x6 as the vertical mount. Is the tv too heavy for this?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. Didn't it come with brackets that you could use to mount it? A 2x6 would look tacky. Mine came with a table mount and a wall mount. I could not use a wall either so I just went out and bought a higher cabinet to stand it on with the table mount. Now I am a really happy camper because the cabinet is used to store the cd's DVD's, extra HDMI cables, Blue Ray player, Tape Player, etc.
I feed all the cables through the rear of the cabinet to the TV.

If you work in a metal/fabrication shop, it wouldn't be that difficult. You would have to have a few pieces broke/bent and holes drilled here and there. It's pretty cheap to just go to monoprice.com and get one. I bought mine there, wish I would have made it myself, but it's so cheap there that it wasn't that big of a deal. As for weight, it may not be a problem. You're going into the studs with big self tapping bolts, right?

You should be able to find out how much the TV weighs by looking at the manufacturer's website for your model, or sometimes by looking the website for a retailer who sells that model. Plasma TVs are heavier than LCD TVS, but both are light compared to CRT TVs.

However, I would shop around online, and find something the right height that says it will support a TV the size of the one I had, if I thought that my home-made might stand tip over or come apart and take a new TV with it.
