  1. After the bad press of bulb failure of DLP TVs like Toshiba and a few other.
Does LED driven DLP a must now ? Can owners comment on this issue.
I am itching to get one.

This is the samsung version with 1080P, and going for $2200.00 and up.

I have a Sony LCD Projection HDTV that I bought in December 2004. It uses a replaceable bulb. It is still running fine on the original bulb. Of course, the dicks at Circuit City tried to sell me a service plan, saying that the bulb would fail after about 6 months or so.

Technically, the bulb is probably getting indiscernably dimmer all of the time. If I were to compare it side-by-side with a new bulb, the new bulb would probably be noticeably brighter. However, it looks fine to me right now.

BTW, I watch TV about 6-7 hours per day during the week. More on weekends.

I guess I have no life.

The LED illuminated DLP's are very low power at this point. They are used in micro-sized presentation projectors.

I have been delighted with my Samsung 50 inch DLP for 18 months. The guy at Best Buy told me the bulb would definitely last through the one year warranty period but probably fail during the 5 year extended warranty period. Since the extended warranty cost the same as a new bulb, I passed.

LCD panels are brighter and have no bulb to burn out, but nothing comes close to DLP for eliminating the screen door effect. On a good HD feed, there simply is no space between pixels.
