You don't mess with individual VOB files....you work at the VIDEO_TS folder level.

you work at the VIDEO_TS folder level.

  4. What do you mean by best? Fastest? Best quality? Some compromise of the two? Does it still need to be VOB file when you're done?

I have been using DVD SHRINK for years with no problem, It's the best one I know of, The only thing is it has not been updated in years.

  7. If it has multiple audio streams and you don't need them all, removing some might be enough. Otherwise, author to a dual layer DVD VIDEO_TS folder structure. Then use DVD Shrink to shrink it to single layer. If it needs to be shrunk by a lot you should reencode to the required size. That will give you higher quality but will take much longer.

There's also the issue of whether you want to make a movie DVD (that plays in all DVD players) or just want a small video file to put on a data disc. The answer for that would be very different.

So... what you're saying, is that you have a single .VOB that's 4.99 GB, and that's what you want to work with? Is it in a VIDEO_TS folder, or by itself?

(My brain's probably going offline right about now, anyway... )
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

normally size of single vob is limited to 1 GB ~ 1024 MB.
how did you get vob sized 4.99 GB?
anyway, take it to authoring program like AVStoDVD / DVDFlick / DVDStyler which allows you to author 4.7GB DVD with simple menu.

Sounds the source DVD was copied, then all the vob files from the main title set were merged as one, and all the other pertinent files of the DVD structure were thrown out.

EDIT: Okie dokie -- DVD Flick may indeed be helpful to create a DVD-compliant disc.

  12. As jagabo said, author your single vob so it becomes a DVD structure, then load into DVD Shrink. You may find it has extra audio or sub streams you can strip away, so that you don't even have to reencode it. To make the vob into a DVD structure, use any authoring tool like DVD Styler or DVDAuthorGUI, or maybe even Simple DVD Creator will work also.

Yes I joined all the existing vobs which was 5 x 0.99GB with VOBMerge and removed the titles which I didn't want as wanted to put mine on it but that made it 4.99GB

So you HAD a DVD structure to begin with? You could've just loaded the original folder into DVD Shrink & cut out the bits you didn't want in "Reauthor" mode.
