I am very much a novice at this so my question may be laughable

I am a huge fan of the tolkien trilogy but one thing that has always bugged me about my platinum EE edition is that, no matter what player or hardware I use, the background music/themes track is relatively overbearing vs. the dialogue and other sounds [unless they're really loud ones like battles etc]. I'm wondering if there is a way to adjust that to get a more listenable balance? I know the rudiments of decrypting the files and breaking them into their various buckets, but maybe actually editing such is not necessary? is there a player out there that would allow me to fine-tune this without actually going into an audio-editing tool?

    thanks for your direction!

not easy. it sounds like you are listening to the dts audio, try the ac3 track, it isn't as annoying.

  3. It's easy to do while playing the videos on a PC. Just use the mixer to adjust the levels of each channel -- especially boost the center channel where the dialog is. It should be easy to do on a home theater with a surround sound receiver too.
