i've been reading around online to find out what would be a better approach to encoding mp4's from seamless branch movies. right now i use bd rebuilder to convert the multiple m2ts files into a single one, then feed that into ripbot. sometimes this is a hit or miss for me, such as the case with Robin Hood, where i selected the main movie only option, the movie length looked correct, so i went ahead with it, but it turned out to be the director/commentary video/audio that was extracted by bd rebuilder.
in a movie like Gladiator for example, i want to convert the extended edition. so far i've been feeding ripbot single m2ts files from my hdd. i'd like to know if i can instead just insert the blu-ray disc and select the proper playlist within ripbot ? i've never encoded directly from a disc with ripbot, so i have not specified playlists with ripbot, just single m2ts files that contain the entire movie. if i can do this with ripbot, i can just avoid using bd rebuilder alltogether. i would imagine it would take longer to encode directly from disc, not sure how much longer tho ...
i have bdinfo, so i can identify the playlist i want, but one other question i have is bdinfo often displays 2 playlists next to eachother that appear to be identical (the runtime of the movie is the same for 2 different playlists). so which one would be the correct one ?

Extract the title first with Clown_BD, it will join all the m2ts files in the playlist into one m2ts file (without re-encoding). And it will also correct any audio delay or sync byte issues if found, which happens from time to time. You can then play the extracted file to verify it has the streams you want. Then use RipBot or BDRB.
As to duplicate playlist files with identical runtimes, I've seen that before numerous times, and they have always been the same. Which isn't to say there would never be a difference, but I haven't seen it. Maybe it's just a futile attempt to disguise the structure by complicating it with multiple playlists, just as is done by spreading a title over many m2ts files. I dunno.
Can't advise you on RipBot, as I haven't used it much, since I prefer BDRB. Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
thanks for your input fritzi ... nice to know.
i'm looking to keep from cluttering my system with programs and tools, so far ripbot, bd rebuilder and bdinfo are executables that i added to my C drive and had to configure via my internet security software so that they can operate without pause or interference from the registry/event monitor.
i'd rather avoid adding more tools if i can.
maybe if i use bd rebuilder to do a full backup to my drive, then point ripbot to the bdmv directory, i can choose the playlist in ripbot ? can ripbot handle encoding multiple m2ts files to compile an mp4 of the movie, or do i have no choice but to convert a seamless branching disc to a single m2ts file first .... this is what concerns me at the moment
