I am curious whether any one is having the same issue I am with ffwd and rewind functions in h264 videos. First of all when I create a video using Freemake or MediaCoder in h264 format the forward and rewind functions using WDTV HUb work fine. The forward and rewind is smooth and doesn't hesitate or look choppy. If I convert the same video using Handbrake or TMPGENC Mastering Works the ffwd and rewind is choppy and skips frames.

Is there a setting I can use in Handbrake to achieve the same smooth forward and rewind functionality I experience in Freemake and MediaCoder video files? This happens while playing video back on Western Digital's WDTV Hub.

If there is a setting I can change in Handbrake please let me know.

  2. Why don't use use freemake or mediacoder then?

Probably shorter keyframe interval required for smoother FF/RW, possibly b-frame settings

Use mediainfo (view=>text) on the videos and compare the settings used

  3. Use shorter GOPs.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I'm using Handbreak is due to the quality of the output, its a preference thing. I will attempt the suggestions that were stated.

I'm sorry but I don't quite know where or what this setting is? I looked in the setting for Handbrake but could not find it. I have noticed reference to GOPs in other encoders. I know it must be here.
