I have been working on streaming movies through my PS3 and have had both good and bad results. I have an older PC running XP, a Verizon FIOS network with an Actiontech router and a new slim PS3.

Some movie files play better than others and I'm trying to determine what works the best with my system. I have several MKV movies/files but they pixilated. I read on another forum that the PS3 doesnt do MKV well so I converted them to MPEG (2 I think) through a program called MKV2VOB but they arent playing for whatever reason. I have tried both media servers Serviio and Playstation Media Server (PMS) and although I like Serviio better PMS works more consistently.

My question is, what program will give me the low down on what configuration a file is in. Audio info video info and the like. I need this to get a good understanding of what works for me the best.

    Thanks for any help

Excellent, thanks for that. Now can someone recommend a free program that can convert most any video into MPEG4 that the PS3 seems to prefer?

I'll throw in my recommendation for format factory.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I found this free program: http://www.freemake.com/

It was listed at this forum as a program that can turn everything into anything and it really seems to do just that. A great free program.

  8. If XMedia-Recode hasn't become so buggy in recent months, I would recommend that software. My second vote would be for XviD4PSP. It has presets for beginners, and lots of advanced options for nerds like Me.

Good god is that program slow! It does do everything but I swear it takes half the day.
