Is there a free program that will allow me to stretch/shrink the audio and then preview it with the video to see if its in sync? Programs like virtualdub and avidemux only have a time delay option, I think, and not the stretch/shrink that I need to fix the audio. Alternately, what's the best way to fix audio sync problems that aren't a simple time delay? I've read a dozen posts on here and around Google and my brains gonna explode...

Virtualdub also has an option to change the video duration to match that of the audio.

In all actuality I believe you need to determine the cause/type of audio sync issue you are having, there could be a myriad of reasons cause the audio and video to loose sync. Hell, I've seen what appeared to be a badly fragmented drive cause sync issue. There should be a guide in the forums that describes how to identify and correct audio/video sync issues.

Is this a file that was downloaded, or it file that was captured from like vhs or DBS?
Is the file converted from one format to another, i.e NTSC to PAL?

Give us some details about the problem and perhaps we can give you a option to best address your specific scenario.

Virtualdubmod has an audio stretch freature to match the video. Check the help contents/audio filters.

You can test the results in the time line.
