I had a converted BR that was in MKV container. I did the changing myself. Initially, I used MakeMKV to extract the movie. I then used MKVExtractGUI2.exe to demux the streams. They were 1 VC1, 1 DTS, 1 Sup.

I converted the DTS to ac3 and found a downloaded srt. I then re-muxed the VC1 ac3 and srt with the original chapters with MMG [the gui for MKVtoolNix]. The resulting file would play on my computer but not on my Media player.

So, I took this MKV with only VC1, ac3,and srt and used MKVExtractGUI2.exe to de-mux this file and re-mux again with MMG. This MKV also had the same non-playing result. So, I de-muxed the MKV with Tsmuxer. The de-mux this time also produced a BR sup file as well as the original srt. Sticking the VC1,ac3 and srt from the TsMuxer de-mux produced a playable MKV.

I inserted my origional conversion into Mediainfo and no sup was listed as being in the file.

So I was wondering, where did the sup file come from? Was it hidden or did TsMuxer generate it?

  2. My guess is the fault lies in MakeMKV. I haven't used it much, only tested it a few times, but each time I did, the subs (sup) were not, um, displayable in MPCHC. I don't remember now if I checked to see if MediaInfo listed them as present. But I recall that tsMuxer did show them.

That was probably a year ago or thereabouts since I last tried MakeMKV. I figured, eh, beta program, it'll get fixed. Or that perhaps it was my fault somehow, or a peculiarity of the discs I tested, although I thought that unlikely.

    Anyway, there you are.

    @ fritzi93.
Yes you're probably right about MakeMKV .

However, I did de-mux and re-mux the Makemkv file with MKVtoolNix and only put back the srt. The sup from Makemkv was discarded. and didn't show up again until I used TsMuxer on the MKV that supposedly didn't have the Sup file included.
