    Hi there.

I am back off to the UK for some weeks but was looking for a good piece of software which would allow me to dial in from a PC from england to here to control this PC from over there.

What software would you recommend? I was looking for something that's quite straight forward.

So far i know of PC Anywhere, LogMeIn & Teamviewer are these good or are there better?

    Thank you.

Agreed - Windows RDP (mstsc.exe) is pretty good. You could also look at some of the VNC variants.

  4. I use Team Viewer pretty frequently with good results. It also has it's own VPN available.

  5. The OP did not state what OS he was using. There are some restrictions for using MS Windows remote desktop on some versions of Vista and some versions of XP.

    From MS.....
    • You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic N, or Windows Vista Home Premium. You can, however, connect from those editions of Windows Vista to computers running other versions of Windows.
    • You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows XP Home Edition.

He did. He is using WinXP Pro w/SP2.

AFAIK, XP doesn't have the remote software.

Yes it does, Windows Remote Desktop; I have used it several times from Chicago to Florida to help my niece troubleshoot. We both run XP, SP2. Works great.

What's the name of the executable? I searched for mstsc.* and didn't find anything.

TeamViewer is free for non-commercial use. I use it all the time.
