While I have been encoding videos for many years, I am a total dunce when it comes to how to do this for my son's Ipod touch 4g.
The 4g is different from the other Ipods, in that it can play high-res video.
I am wanting to convert a videos that are in wither Xvid or Divx format (Avi) to MP4, suitable for the Ipod touch 4g.
here are the official playing specs:
    • H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    • MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Normally, I will be using Virtualdub, as I have 100s of times, but I am usually encoding TO Divx or Xvid, from various formats, to be played on PCs/Laptops (Windows or Linux), DVD players (usually Divx compliant), my old Palm Tungsten T3 and my Android Samsung Galaxy Tab.
On all of these, I like to end up as an AVI, which Apple doesn't like. Also, on all of these, I have a lot of flexibility for video players, firmware, etc. But now, I am what I call, "Apple Prison", it is all proprietary.

I do have a bunch of encoders in Virtualdub and I also just downloaded FFCoder v1.2.0.5.
The issue is that for encoding, I don't know what to select in both FFCoder or Virtualdub, with the X264vfw-H264 or FFDshow.

    Can someone help guide me?

    Thanks,

    Jon
    Thanks in advance
