    “The video that is written to a DVD-video disk is encrypted in MPEG-2 format. This serves to reduce the size of the raw video to the point where it will fit onto a DVD while still preserving most of the image quality of the master copy”. If the files of a DVD disk are video TS files, are those MGEP-2 files stored in the TS folders?.
    Another question;
    I filmed some footage with my JVC camera. This camera saves video in .MOD files which they say are actually .MPEG files. I have Nero 9 installed on my computer and since Nero 9 doesn’t work with .MOD files I batch renamed them to .MPEG, so far so good. I opened Nero Recode 9 to burn the MPEG files to DVD. I followed the instructions and even got the message that the files were being burnt. However I saw no DVD burning activity on my computer DVD drive---the green led was not flashing--- and after 2.5 hours the DVD-R that I used was still blank. My DVD burner was correctly selected as default on Nero. To make a test I downloaded a free trial of a MPEG to DVD burning program which worked fine. This time the DVD drive showed activity and the disk was burnt , but this trial version only burns 50% of the files. I want to use Nero Recode again because it is the program with full capability that I have installed on my computer. According your experience what I’m doing wrong when using Nero Recode or why do you think it is not communicating with my DVD burner. Is there any program with full capabilities that I can download from the net for free to burn MPEG to DVD?

    Thank you all for your time and advise.

    Yes. The VOB files inside the VIDEO_TS folders are/is your video footage.

    And to answer your second question....I think you may need to look at your first question. A DVD(playable in a DVD player attached to your television) can only be what you described above...a DVD "authored" to be a playable DVD complete with a VIDEO_TS folder. An MPEG2 file burned to a blank DVD is NOT a playable DVD to a DVD player. You need to be burning a VIDEO_TS folder to a blank DVD....not an MPEG file.

    Sorry but I made a mistake when I posted first. I used Nero Vision not Nero Recode to try to burn the MPEG files. The DVD that I burnt using the trial version did play on my standalone DVD, therefore it was converted to TS.

    It's always best to burn with ImgBurn. Have Nero Vision give you the DVD folder (VIDEO_TS)....and burn that with ImgBurn.

  5. I am not sure whether it is the problem of the burning settings. While, I use Sothink free movie maker to burn all my videos. It works well. You can download it on CNET.

    In addition, I can make my own favorite movie menus with it.
