I am not known with XP, and therefore I am not sure if you can enable DMA, but if you can then please check if DMA is activated.

Windows XP has no ASPI layer which inhibits rip speed grately.

    Get some ASPI from Adaptec

under system in controll panel, uninstall you IDE channel that you DVD drive is on. Then reboot and let XP find it. You should then be able to tell it to use DMA mode. I had the same problem under XP. Also ensure that you have installed an ASPI layer with force ASPI before you try to rip again. These steps should increase your rip speed considerably depending on your DVD drive... Good luck

You need to install an ASPI layer since WinXP does NOT have one.

    go to

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?cat=/Product/ASPI-4.7...Package%2B4.70

or see under the TOOLS page

  7. I was able to rip DVD's without the Adaptec ASPI loaded and I could get about 7x+ speeds, and now that I do have it loaded I see no difference in speed. The only thing that is different is that I don't have to play a part of the DVD in powerdvd to unlock it first to rip it with Smartripper. On the other hand my friend can only rip at 1.1x speed and he does have the Adaptec ASPI loaded. We both have Windows XP. Not sure how my friend has his system configured but my DVD drive is on my secondary IDE controller whereas my HD is on my RAID (not RAIDed though) controller so they can work independantly. I think this might be where my friends problem and possibly yours lies.

  8. Actually i dont not suggest you use version 1.7 of the ASPI layer..you should use version 1.6 as the 1.7 is very buggy and just gives you coasters when burning
