  1. -My burner stopped burning dl disks. When I put them in it doesn't recognize there's a disk in the drive. I use dvd decrypter and shrink. It recognizes and successfully rips my dvds. I tried to use a different batch of dl disks. Verbatim, which it has burned before. I also just got windows 7. Thanks for any comments!

DVD DECRYPTER is outdated software which is no longer updated. Use IMGBURN to burn DL media.

Your drive may simply be failing although you really should be using ImgBurn to burn. It's the same burning engine but it's updated regularly. When I used to make Lightscribe discs the ability to burn DL discs would be the very first thing to fail on my Lightscribe burning drive. It happened on all 3 of them. If your drive is older it just may be in your best interest to replace it rather than continue to risk making coasters. If you're too cheap for that then I would suggest burning your DL discs at the lowest speed your burner allows.

I should mention that there's a modified version of DVD Shrink that can automatically use ImgBurn. It's on the DVD Shrink tool page. If ImgBurn doesn't work for your discs and burner, then best to replace the burner. DL coasters can get expensive. I've burned over 100 Verbatim DL discs on several different burners and no coasters yet.

And if you are using DVD Decrypter for decryption, it's unlikely to work on newer DVDs, but you probably knew that. There is still a free version of DVD Fab that will decrypt newer discs.

Yep in that case its better to spend 30.00 usd or 35.00 usd on a new dl burner. It would save a lot of headaches. Check newegg or tigerdirect for new dl burners - prices might be even lower since the last time I looked - quite awhile ago......

I got a Sony AD-7260S burner last week for ~$22US with free shipping from NewEgg. Average low end burner (OEM) prices are about $25US at present.

    Even better.

Last time I bought a dl burner was a few years ago. I remember it being about 35.00 for a pioneer 107 or some such pioneer model (can't remember exact number).

Nice to see the low price

  8. I downloaded the ImgBurn program and it worked until today(just got back from month vacation.) I posted a new thread instead of replying to this one again, apparently this is the wrong thing to do, sorry. Did the same thing happen to ImgBurn or does it sound like a problem with my burner?
    Thanks,
