A friend of mine gave me a DVD with a video in a VED format. I have been searching but unsuccessful in determining how or even IF I can convert this. Any information would be much appreciated!

did you mean vcd? as in it's a cd with video on it? pop it in a drive and see if vlc will play it. you can then look at the video specs in vlc's tools/media info.

No, it's definitely marked as VED. I think it was a program she used and it saved it in it's own format (?). Not sure where to go from here.

Try to open with mediainfo or gspot to see what really is.

  5. Explain in more detail how it is "marked" as VED. Is this the three-letter extension of the file? If not, what is the file name? Are there any other files or folders? Any chance you can get the name of the program?

Never heard of this type of file name.

A brief search found a possible candidate - Video Explosion Deluxe, from Nova development, which has a program called Photo explosion deluxe, but no video program listed. My guess would be that this is a project file that will only open with the associated program. If your friend is handing these out they need to learn about supported formats that other people can make use of.

BTW, when I say "a brief search" I mean less than 30 seconds. Where exactly were you looking for additional information? I googled VED video, not all that complex.
