  1. Hi Friends

I've ripped a DVD by which I've got VOB files which also contains the audio. Through DVD audio ripper software I've ripped the audio file into .WAV format. The problem was that it was 2 channel stereo audio. Through a guide I was able to convert this 2 channel stereo audio to 5.1 channel audio. Now I want to author one more DVD which contains the ripped video and the recently converted audio. How can I achieve this? Also the audio needs to be in sync with the Video and the DVD should be playable on a standard DVD home theatre system. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Use pgcdemux to separate the video and audio from the original dvd.
Then use muxman with the old video and the new 5.1 ac3 audio to make a new dvd.

Click on pgcdemux for some guides/tutorials.

  4. Also Baldrick when I rip a scratched DVD so that I can burn the files on a fresh DVD to get rid of the scratches, what I see is that in the .VOB files which I would have ripped the video gets stuck at the same places as it was getting stuck while playing the DVD itself. What is the solution for this? How can I get a clean and smooth video so that I can burn it on a blank DVD and enjoy a scratchfree movie?

Buy a new DVD of the movie? You said it's scratched and won't play in the player and won't rip to the hard drive. Do you expect some sort of magical solution to fix this? You can try cleaning the disc (probably won't work), and you can try ISOBuster (maybe won't work).

You can actually put it on the hard drive by telling the decrypter to skip the corrupted places. But the result will be those places will be filled with corrupted video. When using DVD Decrypter you tell it to ignore read errors. It may take a very long time (hours) to get it onto the hard drive.

  6. @Manono : Thanks . I think I was a bit too optimistic in posting the question when I saw the work you guys've been discussing in this forum. I thought there might be some solution but not to be. Right so there is no other option but to buy a new DVD when it is scratched.

  7. @Baldrick: Thanks Mate. I was able to get a final multiplexed output. (Ripped Video with 5.1 AC3) . Need to check the output on a home theatre system though. When burning I need to put the multiplexed files into a VIDEO_TS folder and burn right? Sorry I am trying these things for the first time so asking silly questions.

  8. Yes, create a folder with the name of the movie, MOVIE_NAME or whatever. Inside of that make an empty AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder. Inside the VIDEO_TS folder stick all the VOBs, IFOs, and BUPs. Open ImgBurn, hit the 'Write files/folders to disc' button, and scroll to the MOVIE_NAME folder.

  9. I have used a Disk Dr cleaning device on a number of DVDs and game disks, I would highly recommend giving it a try.

If you only have one or two at a time the one with the hand crank is cheaper, if you have several get the one with the motor.

  10. Thanks. Guys I have a problem. There is some sync problem in the audio channels because of which the dialogues and music is playing like an echo. This is because there is a slight time difference in the starting of the audio in each channel. What I did to solve this is to use audacity and use features like zoom and time shift. So I want all the audio tracks in the channels to start at exacty 1 min and 14 secs which is when the lip movement starts in the video. I succeed in shifting the channels to 1.14. When I play it in the session it is in sync but when I export it to WAV, it again exports as the old one. Is there anything which I am doing wrong? We cannot use save in audacity as it saves as an .aup project. Could you please suggest something if I am doing something wrong and if there are any other tools available to achieve this?

Keep in mind that original DVDs are mastered in professional studios, where AC3 is professionally and carefully generated and produced to give true surround effect by using hardware professional mixtures and encoders. There is no match for these ones. It's always better to keep original sound track.

Further more as far as Dolby is concerned most of all hardware DVD / BD players can successfully up-mix DD 2.0 channel to DD 5.1 channels. there is no need to up convert DD2.0 if its original, i guess.

The guide I presented here fits in very small area of demand where up-conversion of 2 channel is required.
