GOAL: Capturing TV clips with ATI AIW Pro 128 and converting to "a good looking crisp SVCD"
I have a ATI AIW 128 Pro and captured a 1:30 sec test of a music video using VirtualDub w/ PicVideo MJPEG (Quality set at 20 and 1/1/1), video size (720x480) and rate of 29.97. After saving this .AVI file I opened it again in VirtualDub and started to Frame Serve. When I opened CCE SP and tryed to add this file, CCE state that this was "not a valid .AVI file"
Prior to this I Used the same capture method and used TMPGenc with King Vipers SVCD template, (Mpeg-2, resized to 480x480, 4:3, CQ, NTSC, Interlaced, quality at 100, min/max bitrate at 2520then used Nero to burn onto a CD-RW (Cir. City Digital Media).
THE PROBLEM: When played in DVD player (Sony DVP-S570) the picture quality was "OK" during still images but with any motion the images within the video looked "rough or not crisp" and bacame worse as motion increased. Sound was great. I was wondering if using CCE while frame serving with VirtualDub would fix this or am I forgetting to do something ? I also upgraded MMC to 7.5. Captures with the VCD mode and reg tweak still look "rough" and not crisp. (I know I am talking VCD and SVCD just cant get it right.)

what ver of cce ar you using? v2.62 & up will not work with the virtualdub frameserver
-
Version for CCE 2.62.01.01.
When I try to use CCE without frame serving on the .AVI file created, I get an error from cce stating "Read only 0 bites, when expecting 8"
I have other versions 2.25 and 2.50. I will try these. -
OK, here is what I did...
I Used Vdub 1.4.9 and clicked on proyon.reg in the Aviproxy folder of Vdub.
Resized video in "Vdub / filters" from 720x480-->(.AVI capture from Vdub) to 480x480, percise bicubic A=1.00, and checked off "expand fram and letterbox image" to 480x480.
I started Frame server and added this .vdr file in CCE.
I went to edit video in CCE and under video tab, checked off the first two boxes. (Add sequence end code and upper field first). I then checked off boxes 5, 6 and 7. Set aspect ratio to DAR 4:3. Image quality priority was 10 and Anti noise filter was at 2.
Video encoding mode was Mpeg-2. one pass VBR (tried 3 pass but received an error that the file was different then the first when CCE tried the 2nd pass)
Quantization factor and bitrate were set to Q=20, Min bit rate of 300 and Max of 2400 . Audio was joint stero at 224.
Started Encoding......SHEEWWWW !!
I then opened TMPGenc and did a simple mux of the .mpv and the .mpa files.
burned onto a CD-RW in Nero ( it said non complient, so I turned it off and burned)
The Qulaity was better.........But still some rough edges.
Sound was HORRIBLE !!!!! Not smooth but faded in and out a bit and almost a bit muffeled
Here is a .BPM ( I know, should have tried a .jpg ) of a clip that shows two of the three problems. (Most of the video is "OK" but looking to tweak a bit more.)
1) Letterbox is off
2) Image.....well you can see how bad it looks. Almost a ghost image.
3) Sound,....I will have to work on that. maybe try TooLame and extract audio to .Wav then Mux together.
I know it was a lot to read but I tried to include as much info as possible.
Any suggestions ??
