Wow it took me way too long to find this community...

However, recently I bought myself a capture card at Amazon (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002MRROO4/ref=oss_product). Due to my incredible ignorance at that time, I did not notice that this is only compatible with PCI-Express slots (yea, it was in the title, don't judge me! ;P).

However, I only have PCI slots left, so now I'm wondering if there are capture cards which can capture in HD on the PCI basis.

If not, please give me as many alternatives as possible. If you need more info about my hardware, please ask.

    Thanks in advance!

HD capture devices use either PCI-E, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or the new Thunderbolt port as their interface. I am not aware of any HD capture devices that use a PCI interface.

Thanks for your response. Could you point me to the appropriate HD hardware which uses USB 2.0 Ports? Also, I don't have an HD TV yet. But still I'd appreciate any kind of guidance in this case.

The hauppauge hd pvr connects to your computer via usb. It records in h264 via hardware encoding. It uses component or copmosite and svideo. It also can record dolby digital via fiber optic (but not dts).

You can use the xbox 360 component cable and connect it to the hdpvr. Than you can record in hd to the hdpvr (it records in h264 in either a m2ts, ts, or mp4 video file). Also it only records up to 1080i not 1080p. You need to set it below 1080p for it to record (and set the slider switch on the component cable to "hdtv").

Thank you yoda! I'll try to come up with the money for it...also need a component cable. Anyway, since I don't have an HD TV, will it display anything if I set the Xbox to 720p?

I don't believe so but I can't say for certain. You can watch it in the recording preview window on your computer. But there will be lag (not a problem for watching video but BAD for gaming). If you do have a hdtv or take your computer to a neighbor who has one you can use component pass through cables that will send the same signal through with no delay but still send input to the computer.

There are composite cables on the component cable for the xbox 360. However I don't really know if both are outputted at the same time. I don't believe they are. There is a slider switch on it to go from component to composite so I believe it is only one or the other not both.

However if you do set it to 480 well 576 for pal, you would still get widescreen progressive. However if all you have is composite than it will be 576i but still widescreen.

The X360 componet cable have composite too. In youtube tutorial, a person use both in same time, composite to recording on Pc and component to preview on TV.

Send a message him and make questions about this. "tczabumba"
