  1. I just purchased a LG BX580 Network 3D Blu-Ray player and am able to burn AVCHD to DVD-r (when I insert the disc in the player, it shows up as AVCHD and starts playing) - HOWEVER, when I burn the .ISO to a DVD+R and insert the disc into the player, it detects it as a BLU-RAY and then says "Check Disc" and ejects it. Anybody had this issue with the LG BX580? I'm stumped. I'm quite new to blu-ray/AVCHD/HiDef video and am learning. What gives on this?

Twister29 - You really should have started a new thread rather than hijacking this one. Your issue is really specific to your LG player rather than being a general AVCHD question like the original point of the thread.

    Possibilities for your problem...
    1) Your player doesn't like DVD+R discs for AVCHD.
    2) Your player doesn't like the brand of DVD+R disc you used. Verbatim (NOT the Life series, but everything else is OK) and Taiyo Yuden are the best quality discs.
    3) There is a difference between the way the ISOs were created between what works and what doesn't work and that is your real problem. Perhaps the ones that work contain directories or layouts that are different from the one that failed for you. Some BD players are fine with AVCDH format. Others require some tweaks in the format.

  4. This issue is specific for LG players as stated above.
I had the same issue with LG BD570. Upgrading the firmware solved it.

Anybody else had this issue with the LG BX580? I'm quite new to blu-ray/AVCHD/HiDef video and am trying to learn. I've already updated the firmware when I first brought it home (2 days ago). Maybe another firmware update in in order?

I used the exact same method to burn the DVD-R and DVD+R; open IMGBURN, selected "Write Image file to Disc", selected my .ISO file and then burned the disc.

The media tag for the Verbatim DVD+R I'm using is:
    Disc ID: MCC-004-00
    Book Type: DVD+R
    Part Version: 1
    Disc Size: 120mm

The media tag for the GQ "Great Quality" (generic) DVD-R (which plays just fine in the BX580) :
    Disc ID: 0@P-!-00
    Book Type: DVD-R
    Part Version: 5
    Disc Size: 120mm

Is there some setting in IMGBURN that I can change to make the BX580 player detect DVD+R's as AVCHD instead of Blu-Ray?

Forgive me for being daft - but isn't this a new thread? As originally posted in this "new" thread I stated that I used the exact same method to burn the DVD +/- R's. How does that make them different?

  9. As I said earlier I had the exact same issue with LG BD570. The new firmware fixed it.

Prior to that, I played around and found empirically that AVCHD made from AVCHDcoder and BDrebuilder on +R suffered from what you are experiencing. The exact same file burnt on -R or +RW worked fine!!! However, AVCHD made from DVDFAB on +R as well as -R played OK!

I would just get -R media if there's no new firmware available. This problem appears to be specific for the LG as all of these discs played fine on the PS3.

Thanks for the reply Keff - just what I suspected - I updated to the latest firmware (2 days ago) and tried to update again today but it already has the latest available firmware. Maybe in a future update LG will address this limitation. I'm burning on Verbatim media (preferred) because I've had such good luck with them - no coasters.

One other question - have you had this issue with Verbatim DVD+R/DL? I suspect it's the same case... Will ripping the blu-ray to my HD using DVDFAB and transcoded with AVCHDCoder present the same results?

  11. I used avchdcoderto convert to avchd and imburn to burn to a single layer dvd-r to play in my LGBD550 and it played fine, I will test on my verbatim +DL. I've never updated the firmware since I haven't had a problem yet.

It's been a while now, but I recall that +R/DL AVCHD disc made with DVDFAB worked. I don't think I ever tried other programs on +R/DL. As for your 2nd question, that will give you the same result.

  13. Just burned resident evil shrunk by BDrebuilder to a dvd+r DL and it plays fine although it says it's a bluray disc while when i used avchdcoder for encoding mkv to avchd on a dvd-r it said avchd go figure.

  14. Ok, did a few tests on my side. Ripped "Kick Ass" to my HD with AnyDVD (keeping copy protection/encryption) as an ISO. Loaded ISO into DVDFab and transcoded to BD-5 ISO file (to burn to a DVD R 5). Burned the transcoded ISO to DVD+R using ImgBurn - LG BX580 recognizes it as Blu-Ray, shows message "check disc" and ejects the disc.

Tried again with a DVD-R and the BX580 recognizes it as AVCHD and starts playing. I guess the LG-BX580 just does not like DVD+R's burned as Blu-Ray/AVCHD. I can however burn files (MKV, MP4, M2TS, etc.) to a DVD+R that the player will play them without issue. I've been occassionally checking for new firmware updates for this machine, but apparently have the latest firmware. I think I've gone thru 5-6 DVDR's since performing these tests.

Question: Are DVD-R DL's not available anymore? I purchased some RiData DVD-R DL's on SuperMediaStore but have yet to test transcoding/burning to BD-9. Anyone know where I can find Verbatim DVD-R DL's?
