  1. Hello,

First post here maybe someone can help.
I had a really bad virus a few days ago and as a result had to wipe my laptop, unfortunately that wasn't the end of my back luck as my backup drive for some reason only had a portion of my previous data backed up on it.
I downloaded some software (Retrieve My Files) which has been excellent and despite performing a Factory Reset I was able to retrieve a considerable amount of my original files.
I have a lot of videos that are very important to me but I'm worried they haven't survived very well, I tried to open them with WMP but that gave me a codec error, so I downloaded KMPlayer and it did a good job of opening some files WMP player couldn't some of them have just been converted to JPEGs (just screenshots) and now KMPlayer won't open and lots of the files still won't open and I was hoping for some help!

    Thank you in advance.

How big are the files that doesn't work?

It may be difficult to recover huge files like movies. You could try open with an editor like mpeg streamclip and avidemux and see what happens. If it works, save as a new mov or mp4.

  3. Hi,

Well it gets confusing because I've managed to play the files I need but with no audio, using KMPlayer and when I view them in the folder they are .mov but on properties they are just JPEGs even though they play as video on KMPlayer and they are less than 100KB in my folder by KMPlayer says they are over 50MB ?!
