  1. Sup!

First off, this site is awesome! I've learned so much by just browsing through the tutorials.

Well, I've run into a problem. I've gotten a VCD MPG file, and have burnt it to CD with Nero. I've done this numerous times before with different movies, and it turned out fine. Well, when I play the burn in my DVD player the video scrolls like crazy, while the audio is fine. I automatically thought it was wrong format (although it's 25 fps and I used PAL), so I tried NTSC, nogo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

Did you use the standard format and bitrate? (1150 kb and 352x288) for VCD.

  3. I believe so. I left Nero at all it's defaults (other than switching between PAL and NTSC). I did not encode it myself. I received it from a friend who didn't have a problem with burning that file.

Thank you for the reply, hope this info helps you

Maybe the switch PAL to NTSC is giving you the problems.

Can't you re-encode a part of the movie ( 5 minutes) with standard NTSC VCD settings, and burn it to CD-R(W)? If that part will play correct in your player, then you know the cause of your problem.

Does your player and TV set support PAL? In that case you'll have to change nothing and you can burn it as a pal.

  5. It appears you are trying to play an NTSC video on a PAL system (or vice versa) and your system can not play both type of discs or requires you to take an extra step. First, I would recommend referring to the documentation that came with your DVD player. Is there something special you need to do to play PAL or NTSC discs in your player? Maybe a menu option or key code? If so, do that. If it works, then that's it.

Now... Could it be that the VCD is actually an XVCD? Maybe it is already in the right video format, but it is not a standard VCD format (352 x 288, 1150 kbit video, 224 kbit audio). I know some DVD players do not play these...

If you have an XVCD or the wrong output system, you will need to convert the actual MPEG that is on the disc... Give this a try:

Download the program VCDGear and extract the DAT file from the VCD.
Load the MPEG into TMPGEnc and load the PAL template (or NTSC if you are converting that way)
Set the Source Range to like 1000 frames.
    Encode

Burn the new MPEG to a CD (preferably to a "test" CD-RW if your player supports it) and test it out. If it works, then you know what to do to "fix" the entire DAT file. If this does not work, then you got me.

    I hope this helps.

  6. Thanks so much for the help and replies!! 8)

Well, I found 2 ways to make it work. First thing I did was try to re-encode it to a different resolution, which Nero didn't like, so I allowed Nero to re-encode the file itself. That worked.

The other way (which I prefer) was a problem with the DVD Player itself. It was set to automatically detect the TV type. I manually set it to NTSC (which is what I encoded the MPG in), and it worked! So the 3 other CDR's I had done last week turned out to not be bad.

Btw, the CDRW thing is much easier and less expensive.. LOL

Thanks again so much for the advice!
