currently im in the process of encoding evangelion (anime) but one of the vob files on the dvd wont completely encode...im assuming theres a bad block or something, with smartripper the numbers all stop moving and when click to stop or cancel the system freezes! this has never happened before btw. i get the same result with the other ripper programs as well.
so my question is...is there somehow a way to get the file i need ripped if smartripper cant do it?
thanks in advance.
alohaz.

i'd guess the problem is with your drive. my pioneer dvd-115 chokes on areas of certain discs for no reason at all & there is no workaround(wont play them either). check for damage to the underside of the disc as well

I had a problem with a DVD when it was very small vob (the last in the series). It would stop and not complete the rip.
I experimented and success was found when I changed the setting of Key-Check from every vob-file to once.
Hope this helps

wyteone you should try sector extractor. this is one of the best tools for ripping if nothing else works. i'm pretty sure it is in the downloads/tools section. it might not be as friendly as smartripper but it sure gets the job done.

you should always have at least 2 different dvd ripping proggies...for me i have smartripper and dvddecryptor....
between those two, there haven't been any dvd i can't rip...so if smartripper doesn't work...try dvddecryptor, claddvd, etc... -
thanks for the replys
but to date i still havent been able to rip that one file in question. ive used claddvd with the same result and even when i just try to do a copy and paste from the dvd to hard drive it freezes up as well.
oh well...i guess theres more rippers out there!
thanks all. -
I hear ya...I'm having the same bloody problem with this dvd called Shogun Assassin. It seems like I get a cyclic redundency check when I try to cut n paste the one vob file to the hd. Then when I use smartripper I get the same freeze...not responding(eventually) crap. I even tried the same disc on my nec dvd drive and my external dvd-r drive and recieved the same result.
I'll try the above suggestions though...hope it works
