    Hi everyone

I wasn't sure where to post this. I have a question.

I plan to get some of my S-VHS tapes to digital form, and wondered what was the best way to hook up my S-VHS player to my DVD recorder. Should I go with connecting VIA Scart or S-Video connections ? Without losing any quality.

    Thanks in advance.

If you have an S-VHS machine then S-Video is the way to go....of course you'll need an audio connection between the two as well. Forget about the "not losing any quality" stuff.....all VCRs are NOT created equal.

You'll likely need a TBC between the VCR and recorder.
It won't "just work" as many think and hope.

And for some of us, not having a TBC "just works" fine ...........

  5. Best advice I can give is, having just finished my 7 year vhs to dvd project, is s-video is not always superior and you do not always need a TBC, if the results using the scart are better than s video, and they can be, stick with it.

Do what works best for YOU, also the latest dvd players and lcd/ld TV's can even improve the picture as they have filters, so do a 5 minute test transfer and see what you think.

  6. SCART can be composite, s-video, or RGB.

I can't think of one senario where SVHS composite output would be superior to Y/C S-Video for capture.
