  1. I made a terrible mistake when transferring my AVCHD clips, and only saved the .mts files, and not the supporting files, onto my hard drive, before wiping the SD card. Because of this, I cannot Log and Transfer on Final Cut Pro, or do much else. I can open the clips on VLC or Quicktime, but the video is extremely choppy and sometimes freezes or goes green. I can view the clips perfectly on Splash Pro, so I know it's at least theoretically possible to salvage them. MPEG Streamclip does not recognize them, so I cannot convert them with that.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to convert these files? I'd prefer to do this without having to buy anything, because I'm super broke, but I'd really like to avoid reshooting as well. I'm a complete newbie, so there are possibly some very obvious things I haven't tried.

  2. splash is PC only, but you mention FCP....

Do you have access to both? It would be easier on a PC, at least until the next FCP comes out

Are you trying to edit it in FCP? You could convert to DNxHD with ffmpeg and that would be accepted by FCP

  3. I'm using my PC at home, and I'm hoping to edit using FCP on a computer at school.

I'll try ffmpeg. Is there a particular version I should use? There seem to be a few.
