    Hi Everyone,

I have two versions of the same movie that I am looking to convert to DVD. They appear to be very similar in quality and based on the following I wondered if someone could confirm which would most likely produce the best quality when converted to DVD using TMPG. Apologies if this is a silly question!

    File 1:

    WMV, 898 mb, 640 x 480, video 768kbps, 24bit, Video 2

    File 2:

    AVI, 1.77 gb, 640 x 480, video 215kbps, 12bit, XVID

I presume the WMV as the kbps is higher but the AVI has a larger file size so does this mean less compression?

Many thanks to all who reply.

    Kind Regards

What says 215kbps? Identify using MediaInfo. I guess it's wrong. Bigger file size = higher bitrate. If it doesn't contain audio track(s) with very high bitrate then.

  3. Whichever one looks better when you play the file.

    Hi there

Jagabo - they pretty much identical when played on the computer, very hard to tell which is better.

Baldrick - thanks for the link. I was right clicking on the file and going into properties but it was giving a false reading - loading it into Mediainfo shows a bit rate of 1490 kbps so I'll go with that one.

    Thanks again

Then you'll likely find they look pretty much the same after making a DVD. In general, I find it's easier to work with AVI than WMV.
