    Hi
I'd like to convert DVD VOB files to DIVX, and wanted to know which is the best settings without losing too much quality. I have seen dimensions on some DIVX video files as 720 x 304, Bit Rate 127 KBPS. Video plays well on my TV through USB, but this says it is an AVI file. When I convert a VOB file to 720 x 576 , it's not that great and the video is a little dark and a bit fuzzy. I thought this dimension would be better quality.

    Thanks in advance

What do you convert with? 127kbps is way too low. If you don't need a specific file size use constant quality encoding mode.

    Hi Baldrick

I use TMPGENC 4 Express. Looking for File size around 700MB - 1GB is OK. Is AVI and DIVX same?. Only reason I ask is that I was given a DIVX film but the file stated it was a .AVI

Both Divx and Xvid formats are avi files but actually avi is a container https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/.avi
AutoGk is still a good program to convert MPEG or VOB files to Xvid or DIvx even though it hasn't been developed for many years. It's ismple and straight forward and you can predetermine the ultimate files size or quality.

AutoGK 75% Quality encode is the gold standard. The only tweak worthwhile would be to set the width to 1280, then you would get an HD (720p) upsample.
