I want to cut the title portion which runs for about 3 to 4 minutes in AVI-XviD format movies. Can I do it right from the 1st frame or is there any restrictions to keep some frames from the start so that the mandatory data, if any, are not removed. I have no idea about this. Why do I ask this, coz, after removing the title, the details of the structure are not shown but a message appears in GSpot. However, the structure was seen before the cut.

Open the file in Virtualdub, mark the start and end points of the part you don't want, delete them, and save the rest using Direct Stream Copy. So long as you are happy cutting on I frames you will not have to re-encode.

  3. If you need frame accurate editing enable Video -> Smart Rendering. Set Xvid up with similar settings as your existing file, then Save as AVI. Only the cut GOPs will be reencoded.

Yes. I did the cut as described but in Avidemux. The beginning was not at I frame, but at an intermediate frame. So, when asked for a smart copy encoding, I accepted it with quantiser 4 as suggested by the program. After the cut, the structure indicating I, B, P frames etc. are not shown in Gspot. Please see the attached screenshot at the first post. That's why I want to know if I should not make the cut at the beginning.

  6. There's no reason you can't trim away a portion at the beginning of a file. I don't know what went wrong. Try again?

Thanks jagabo for your instant reply. I could trim away a portion at the beginning with smart copy. I wanted to see the structure of the file after effecting the cut in gspot. It only shows "AVID". When I move the cursor over it, a highlighted message appears. I don't understand what it means. Could I get some explanation please.
