Depends on what you mean by "working".

It does update VP5 English, but dosen't fix what I've already mentioned.

So has anyone tried the SP1 update on their copy? I read a minireview of it on these forums (sorry, don't remember the name) and that person mentioned a lot of problems with the DVD authoring portion of it.

I was curious if any of that was fixed.

No.
Near as I can make out, there was an issue when actually burning the DVD (don't know what it was - I never got that far). This patch fixes that (supposedly).

The problem of VP encoding a new clip for each chapter point remains.

As for the workaround of moving the flags so only a chapters beginning to end are re-encoded (to save disc space), this results in out of sync audio.

Hopefully I've learned my lesson about actually PAYING for software.

ok, here it goes:

New file versions:
- videopack.dll v5.0.0.88
- dvdmuxer.dll v5.0.0.13
- gri_mmc.dll v3.7.0.303

Fixed Bugs:
- choppy video in software DVD players, especially PowerDVD

- DVDs created by VideoPack with more than 2GB of video data on it, didn't play completely on hardware players (played fine on software players)

-* if one video was used in multiple menus, it was erroneously written multiple times on the disc. VideoPack notices this now and only makes a reference to the video.

- In some cases videos with AC3 sound were played without sound on hardware players

- In some cases files on a dvd had a wrong name.

Note to *:
This FixPack doesn't fix the problem that not compliant videos with entrypoints in it are encoded and written several times on a DVD. You can solve the problem by manually exporting the video in DVD compliant format and using this material to set entrypoints/chapters.

New Features:
- supports new recorder hardware, especially the DVD+RW hardware (HP, Ricoh, Philips) are now supported
- The writing speed of the Pioneer DVD-RW A03 was erroneously set to 1x speed. This has been also fixed.

It worked for me running windows xp in U.S. system. Before I installed patch I had a problem when it demuxed remuxed and encoded the sync was out the patch solved this problem. But the pioneer writer still will only write in 1x.

Well, I'll try this and keep my fingers crossed.
Defeats the purpose of my hardware encoder, but I'll survive.

Maybe they'll really fix it next patch.

I tried it, but that dosen't work either.

Used VP5 to re-encode to what VP accepts as fully DVD compliant, but it still seems to add the clip over and over for each entry point.

That bug seems like the last one that needs to be squashed before I consider buying it. I haven't found a DVD authoring program I like yet, and I always liked the power of Videopack 4.0 for VCD's.

My previous post may be in error.

After trying the procedure in the translation, the size meter shows that the project size increases with every new chapter.
However, after making an image, the image size seemed to be correct (no extra encoded files added).

I will do a more extensive test soon and report.

OK. I created a DVD project using a 300 meg clip and a bmp for the menu, and added 4 chapters (with 4 motion buttons).

The project meter showed the project size to be 1.5 gigs.
After writing the image, the image size was only 350megs.

Sound sync was good.

So the project meter is useless, and, for me anyway, so is my hardware mpeg2 encoder (untill patch 2?).

I can't really answer that for you.

It depends on what you're going to use it for.

For VCD and SVCD, I haven't heard of any problems or complaints. I graduated to DVD months ago, and haven't done much testing of those two formats with VP5.

As for DVD, my two tests indicate that VP5 is workable with service pack 1. If you're currently encoding mpeg using software, VP5 is good to go (near as I have seen).
I'd say get it and impress everyone with those motion menus!

If, like me, you're using a hardware encoder, you'll have to re-encode using VP b4 authoring DVD's (unless your encoder lets you adjust it's output to something VP5 accepts as DVD compliant).

I still prefer it to DVDit PE.
