  1. I just started using the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 video editing program and I've run into a problem! For the simple editing project that I'm currently working on my project only consists of 2 clips. The first clip is a long clip on my timeline that ends at approximately 00:02:13;04, and the second clip that follows it also starts at precisely that time mark. I wanted the first clip to be cut at precisely 00:02:13;03.5 and not at 00:02:13;03 (basically I wanted it to be cut at the halfway inch mark between 00:02:13;03 and 00:02:13;04). I was struggling a bit trying to cut the clip at the halfway mark, as the editing pointer had either dragged the clip at exactly either 00:02:13;03 or 00:02:13;04, but playing around with Sony Vegas I discovered the Selection Edit Tool and was finally able to get the long clip to end at the halfway inch mark 00:02:13;03.5.

The trouble that I'm having now however is getting that second clip that starts at 00:02:13;04 to start at 00:02:13;03.5. I'm having trouble dragging my second clip to the halfway inch mark. Is there a way that I can solve this problem?

What format is the video? You can expand the timeline to show frames using the + sign at the lower right corner. Video can't be edited sub frame but audio can.

Look in Project Properties, under the Ruler tab, and you can change to Absolute Frames. Or you can change the ruler to 30fps instead of 29.97 so you don't get those weird fractions.

Additionally, you can drill down (zoom) using the playback cursor and the up arrow. This will take you to the single frames too.

And you might want to turn off Snapping if that's interfering.

If you attach a short clip with motion (30MB max for this site), we can try it in Vegas.

Note that if the source is 60i or 60p, you can set your project to 59.94 fps and get half video frame (field) edit precision. If the source is 30p this will just double the existing frames but still allow 1/59.94 second editing precision.

  7. I decided to take screenshots of the problem that I'm dealing with.

    Here's a picture of my 2 clips.

Pic #2 shows the problem of when I try to drag the 2nd clip over to the specific timemark, it overlaps with the previous clip.

The red arrow in pic #3 is basically where I want the 2nd clip to start at, instead of it overlapping with the 1st clip like in pic#2.

I just moved computers from Vegas Pro 10 to Vegas Plat 10

Unlike Pro, 59.94 isn't in the drop down settings but if you type in 59.94, the setting will take.

Now, if you output this as 60i, you will get combed fields.

If you output as 30p, you will get blended fields in the transition frame.

Yes, and it worked! Thank you! Thank you so much!

But...there's just one teeny, tiny, little, problem.

There's a little bit of space between the clips. Although I'm not sure if you could see it with this particular screenshot, lol.

I wouldn't know without a sample clip. My test clip was 480i DV.

What is the GOP length of your clip?
