my current internal Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200S ATA Device is now knackered.

never had to replace one before, can someone suggest to an inexperienced novice,
an ideal replacement for above,im willing to have a go at opening my housing up and fit it.

Thanks as always for advice given

Maybe a Sony AD-7260S? Or a Asus or Samsung or one of the other popular burners. They are all fairly inexpensive and similar in quality. That appears to be a Sony SATA burner.

    Easy to replace.

Unplug the PC. Open the case, unplug the two cables to the rear of the old drive, then just remove the screws or whatever holds it in place from the sides. Slide it out the front. Slide the new one into place, put the screws back in place, plug in the cables, close the case and you're done. Takes about five minutes most times. You don't need to make any software changes as the OS should recognize it on boot.

A PATA burner uses about the same method, but you may need to set the jumpers on the back of the drive.

Here's a photo from a PC. It uses clips and I added a screw to help hold the drive in place. You can also see the power and data connectors at the rear of the drive. With a few PCs, you may have to remove the front panel, but if so, there are clips to the sides of it to release it.
