My computer had to be rebooted and reinstalled windows XP, and I need to reinstall Adobe reader as all my PDF files open in my Photoshop elements. When I try to install Adobe reader from their website, it just freezes and won't install. Any ideas on why this might be?

PDFs only work on a Mac.
Okay, okay...
On a serious note, reboot again. Try again.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I disagree. Acrobat 9, X have a number of features that see a lot of use even in a smaller business - Portfolios, Digital signatures, 3d...
As long as you stop its "launch when Windows starts" BS, it's quite responsive too.
Plus, older versions of Reader are MUCH more vulnerable to exploit. Adobe puts out regular updates to combat this.
What I would suggest is: If you don't need the extra features, get Foxit or some similar alternate reader. If you do need the extra features, DL actual Reader 9 or X from a different machine (hopefully bypassing the DLManager! - I hate nearly all "required" DL managers), and then copy to the other machine and install.
If you're still having problems, it could be that you're trying to run a similar MSI process at the same time, or it could be worse, like a virus.
Or try rebooting like LS said...

I use the FTP: transaction as I hate adobes browser downloader select adobe 10.0.1 which is Adobe reader X (X=10)

Well, regarding both printing and viewing, Acrobat Reader still is better than FoxIt and similar alternatives. Regarding security, I don't open PDFs in web browsers anymore, I always download them first. And more importantly, my firewall doesn't let Acrobat Reader phone home.
