  1. All of my attempts to encode from MOV to FLV wind up saying unrecognized file. Then when I enter a VOB file instead of mov it at least takes it into the video box but then when I try to encode to flv it gives me only a 0 KB file. Very frustrating!

First off what program are you using? Are these high def files? What type? Are they from a video camera?

Try something like format factory instead. It has flv output. Also if you are uploading to a website have you checked to see if that company offers a conversion program to submit to its requirements?
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

You still haven't said which program you are using.
Have you tried using a different one? (eg FormatFactory as yoda313 suggested)

    1) Both MOV and FLV are "dead end" formats.....meaning that once the video is in either of these two formats....it is very difficult to do anything else with them.
    2) It is widely known that the VOB files present inside the DVD structure often react badly when taken directly from the VIDEO_TS folder. Many higher-end editors only recently added support for importing VOB files....simply because VOB files are meant(and created) to be part of the authored DVD.....the editing should have been done PRIOR to creating the DVD....same as choosing FLV or MOV compression should have been done PRIOR to creating the DVD.
    3) There are specialized programs to deal with the VOB files in a VIDEO_TS folder...MPEGVCR being one of them.

  6. The program I am using is ffmpegX. The .mov files I am trying to convert have been compressed using h.264. Maybe if I export from final cut pro 7 using another format I would have better luck converting them to .flv. What ya think? Any recommendations?
