  1. I'm ripping home movie DVDs that I made several years ago. These DVDs have chapter points to delineate the various videos on the disk (not separate vobs). I'm ripping the DVD so it is broken into the various videos using the chapter points. However, most (but not all) of the videos end up with missing headers (according to ffmpeg). This isn't usually a problem except on the PS3 where the video plays fine, but there's no sound. I've tried ripping with both DVDShrink and DVDFab with the same result. So, does anyone know of a solution that will rip a DVD by chapter points and maintain the headers? Or maybe some way of reconstituting the headers on the videos where they're missing?

    DVDDecrypter
    IFO Mode
File Splitting - BY CHAPTER(though it gets trickier with multi-title discs).

Load one of your ripped "chapters" (BEFORE any further processing) into GSpot and post the results.

    Run that noheaderDVDDecrypter.vob through VOB2MPEG.
Which frontend are you using with FFmpeg?

  5. Unfortunately, vob2mpg doesn't take vob files, but only ifo files, and the free version does not allow ripping by chapters. So I can't do as you suggest.

As for FFmpeg, I've been using the command line.

Oh....you took it out of the DVDShrink output folder already. Well then my normal procedure in that case is to open it in MPEGVCR and save it as an mpeg file(No re-encoding is done).

I would also consider WinFF as a frontend....I just tried it and it opens VOBs.

  7. MPEG-VCR has a lot of options. How exactly do I open it and then save it as an mpeg file?

OK, I figured out how to do it, and it does fix the problem. My problem now is that I've got hundreds of these to do. Does MPEG-VCR have a batch function?

VOB2MPG will do IFO or VOBs, just choose the mode you need to work in. Yes, you need the Pro version for chapter extraction though.
