I have this DVD that once playing, cannot stop. When I hit stop, A message says that the function is unavailable. There has to be a way to correct this problem using pgcEdit. Can someone please advise on how to fix this problem, so I can regain control of this dvd?

    -Thanks in advance.

Most rippers - dvd shrink, dvd decrypter etc will remove the UOP (User Operation Prohibition) flag.

I used DVD decrypter to rip it, but it still has this problem. Please advise on how to UOP.

  4. Check in PGCEdit what the post command for the video is. It may be having it play again (and again and again), or going to another PGC which then has it return to that same title. You should be able to change the command so that it returns to the menu or where ever you want it to go after the video.

    1. highlight title in pgcedit (left pane)
    2. click 'edit PGC' button
    3. Open 'Prohibited User Operations' - this is normally set at '0'
    4. Stop (8) is probably ticked so untick or 'Clear All' to set at '0'

Checked 'Prohibited User Operations' in pgcedit and all were at 0. I have never had this problem with a dvd, but once I hit play, I cannot stop the dvd. I can pause it, and turn off my dvd player, but can't stop the playback.

There is another PUO at vob level.

You can install a plugin for pgcedit which may help you.

  8. There are 3 ways to inhibit the Stop button:

    1. PUOs in the PGC (see post #5, but usually I don't recommend to clear all PUOs. Just clear the ones you don't like.)

    2. PUOs in the VOB (you need the PUO plugin, see post #7)

    3. The "Access Restricted" (aka "Disable Trick Play") flag in the cell table. That flag is rarely set (except on ARccOS/Ripguard protected cells), and it prohibits to use the remote during the playback of the cell, to force the cell to be played at its normal speed, without interruption. Since you've said "I can pause it", I don't think it's the problem here. To verify, open the PGC in the PGC Editor, and verify the "type flags" in the cell table. If the second number is 32 or 96, click the button and turn the "Access Restricted" flag off. (Note that that flag is necessary in the tiny cells of ARccOS/Ripguard protected DVD, if the protection has not been completely removed by the ripper.)

The PUOs in the PGC and in the VOB are usually removed by the rippers, but DVD Decrypter has two options to keep them. (I usually keep the PGC PUOs, easy to remove selectively with PgcEdit, but I remove the VOB PUOs during the rip.)

To be complete, note that there are two PUOs also in the Title Play Map Table, but the Stop PUO is not present there.

If you are sure you have removed all PGC and VOB PUOs, and all Access Restricted flags, then your player may have a bug. (I have a cheap player that refuse to stop when a menu is playing. No problem when a title is playing. I think they did that that way because it is impossible to resume playback in a menu.)

Also, have you tried to hit the Stop button twice, rapidly?
