  1. Hi everybody.I'm new here,so dont bother if i make some mistake!
    SYSTEM:P4 NORTHWOOD 3ghz,Kingston Ram 1 ghz,WinXP Professional SP1,Asus 6600gt with newest drivers.
I have an AverTV Hybrid Volar HX usb stick and i like to record movies,Analog and Digital. In Analog mode, everything is fine.
But in Digital mode-resolution 320x240-the whole image is not smooth and clear as analog! It seems like having no antialiasing with jagged edges, even on subtitles! Very dark image and no good colours.
The things get better when i import the movie in ANY VIDEO CONVERTER PRO which makes 2 encode pass. But then again, the result -by far-is not good as analog!!Other converters like AIMERSOFT ULTIMATE,has not the same efficiency as ANY VIDEO CONVERTER.
The specs of AVerTV,says that it has the ability for advanced real-time H264 recording(320x240.Is this enough for my 40 inch TV.
One thought was to update drivers and application.I didnt do it so far because AVER doesnt say in her webpage that problem will be resolved(if any exists at all..). Strangely enough is the fact that H264 rip files, play perfectly. My H264 codeck is CoreAVC Professional Edition which i kept while i removed K-lite Mega Pack.I cover the specifications of AVer.
I suspect AVerTV usb stick, not to be able to handle H264 process recording and has minimal abilities in spite of AVer's promises!!!
I must say that POWERDVD 9 ULTRA dont play H264 files. Is that normal; When i imported the recorded movie in BOILSOFT VIDEO SPLITTER to cut advertising, image got worst than ever(jagged edge)!!!The same happened with ULTRA VIDEO SPLITTER.I tried even NVIDIA'S Cuda drivers edition for 6600gt but..nothing!

Can you help me; Has anybody else the same problems; Many thanks,TO MOYTRO.

Not unless you watch it from 20 feet away. Use 720x480 or 640x480.

At 320x240 the device is probably throwing out one field. Hence the jagged edges.

There are not any other resolutions! In Didital Mode, only 320x240.That's why i said, may this model of Aver has minimal specifications to record in MP4-H264. Or need new drivers and application.Aver, dont write much about recording.Companies dont give a **** to inform in depth customers about their stuff.Otherwise,we wouldnt go around NET to find solutions.
Unfortunately, most shop-sailers suffer from the same symptom!!!
    Anyway,many thanks.Is there anyone else;..

That's very odd. Generally, devices that capture digital broadcast capture at the broadcast resolution. Because all they do is take the digital data broadcast by the station and put it in a file. If the source is 1920x1080i you get 1920x1080 file. I've never heard of a 320x240 broadcast.

Are you sure that isn't some special capture mode for making cell phone video? Or it (or your computer) may simply not have enough power to compress higher resolution video with h.264 in real time so it downsizes to 320x240. Can it capture with MPEG2 or some other codec at a higher resolution?

Regarding editing the files you are capturing, what container are they? TS? MKV? MP4?

I will check about the special capture mode you say..I think i have power.600W Chieftain. When i receive in DBT,i see:MP4-H264. Only. One of these days i'll replace drivers and application. These channels i write the movies from, are official state AND NOT THE BEST quality signal.I will check a station high quality broacast to see if there is any difference...
What resolution you think my card had to caprure; The signal, comes in that resolution:320x240! A friend of mine, technisian, told me that. If this is real, explains everything. But i dont understand why 320x240 resolution ONLY;;..

I guess you're stuck with that resolution then.

I'm pretty sure 320x240 isn't a valid DVB-T resolution. Is DVB-T even used in any NTSC territories?

Anyway, the specs sheet claims to offer both native MPEG-2 recording up to HD res and a 320x240 iPod format.

Everything you say is completely right. Thus,i discover something terrible:The incoming signal is NOT HD or MP4-H 264!!!So the card-after my settings...- tries to upscale the image...And miss a frame and resolution! Absolutely logical.
Incoming signal seems to be MP2-MP4 and AverTV warns me that IF the signal is HDTV,then AND ONLY THEN it will be written in H264!
So,i turn it to the selection MP2-MP4,and problem is gone!!! The balance seems to be complete! Of course, the companies has to understand that NOT every customer is specialist and thats why they have to offer more details in their manuals.Otherwise, problems will arise!
Many thanks to all.TO MOYTRO(besides, nickname is CHARLES BRONSON title movie THE MECHANIC)
