I am a newbie and cannot decide which of the Blu-ray players would be a better buy. I was able to get the Sony BDPS370 for CAD $86 and the LG BD555C for CAD $99 and cannot make up my mind which to keep and which to return.

The details of the LG can be found at http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-video/video/LG-blu-ray-dvd-player-BD555C.jsp#

The details of the Sony can be found at http://www.sonystyle.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=20153&catalogId=100803&lang Id=200&productId=8198552921666077661

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated

First up...what do you want to do with the player? Just play Blu Rays and DVDs? Stream from Netflix? Playback other region discs? Play files from the Internet? We need that kind of info before we can help...

Thank you for your response. I would like to play files from the internet. Streaming from Netflix would be nice to have. I do not have a need to playback other region discs.

  4. if you going to use it for Divx, mkv .stay away from Sony
Plus if want netflix look for a wireless player if you are far away from the router and u don't want to deal with wiring
LG BD570 is a good choice in this case

    UPDATE ,
I checked the Sony player .I didn't know Sony players sold in Canada support divx

  5. I've owned both. The Sony has better networking features like Dlna, the LG can play a greater variety of files. I had issues playing home burned DVDs on the Sony so now I have the LG.

  6. Once the LG BD555C is on the network, is there anyway to stream from pc to the lg player if they're on the same network?

  7. The LG USB supports FAT16/32 and NTFS with up to 6 partitions. Sony supports FAT16/32 and the first partition. LG supports DNLA and network media shares. Sony supports DLNA only.

  8. How do you get DLNA on the LG? I see no setting for network playing other than Netcast.

the lg bd555 doesn't support dlna, i think the bd570c is the first lg model to have it.

I'm a fan of Sony. The BDPS370 is the better choice.
