I have several small mkv, avi, mpg, etc. files that I'd like to combine. I'm hoping folks here can recommended a good free one. Thanks.

You must reconvert all to same specifications. Use for example xmedia recode or winff and batch convert all to avi xvid. Then join all avi xvids with virtualdub or avidemux.
