  1. I have a DV Camcorder. I have an IBM firewire PCMCIA card. I have Adobe Premier 6.0. I only have a 10G hard drive. Now how do I get the movie on the DV Camcorder to my laptop??
If I use Adobe Premier, it gets me the AVI file which is so huge that it will fill up my 10G in about 30-45 minutes of video. I have 60 minutes of movie.
I also want to edit the movie once I get it to my laptop!!! and then make VCD or just plain MPEG files.
Maybe lateron in my life I can think about making a DVD also out of it, but for now the goal is to get the movie out of camcorder, edit it and make VCD.

    What/How should I do?

  2. Not trying to be a jerk, but I suggest you get a bigger hard drive, then all your problems will go away. Not only that, but if you want to make DVDs in the future, I can only imagine that a larger drive will prevent headaches then too.

  3. You're using a LAPTOP, I would suggest the same as House de Kris, get an external MAXTOR 40 or 80 GB hard drive, they connect through the USB or other ports and work great for LAPTOPS, you may also look into a laerger drive for the LAPTOP (Internal).

  4. I recommend external 1394 hard drive instead of USB drive. Reasons:
    1) you already have 1394 ports (Firewire), no additional interface card needed,
    2) 1394 drive can transfer data upto 50MB /sec while USB harddrive transfer rate is only 1.2MB /sec. That's a huge difference for video capture.
    3) you can also get a 1394 Kit (for 99$), stick in a 60GB or 80GB IDE drives and bingo , you get a 1394 drive !

  5. Thanks for your suggestions. One quick question. If I buy a firewire drive, then my firewire card will use get used up for that. Then how do I get the data out of my DV camcorder into the drive?

  6. Most Firewire cards have 2 or 3 ports. Does Premier's Capture module have a sceem detection feature that will split up your capture into smaller files. Uleads Videostudio has this feature and it sure makes editing easier and doesn't choke up your computer.
