  1. Hi all, I have several .MPG files, after a new Windows Vista Ultimate installation, WMP cannot reproduce some of them... I can open these with Virtualdub, that identifies (and correctly plays) them as VideoCD streams.... instead, the .MPG files that WMP handles are identified by virtualdub as MPEG-1 streams.... It seems I'm missing somo codec installation, but i cannot find a solution... I tried to install the variuos codec packs, upgrades, ffdshow, etc, but no luck...any help ? thanks

I could live with that, but tversity cannot stream these files to my ps3... i suspect that tversity relies on the same software that WMP relies on... so I think that fixing WMP will fix tversity too...

The MPEG-1 codec has been part of Windows for some time and doesn't need to be installed. That sounds more like a problem with WMP. Have you dropped one of the files into Gspot 2.70? That will tell you if you have the correct codec and you can test how the video is rendered.

I hope those 'various codec packs' haven't caused damage to other codecs on your system, which is unfortunately a common problem.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. thank you very much, i'll try your suggestion and post the result... I'm glad to be in this forum, I'm doing lots of experimentation with hd-dvd ripping, I'll surely post some contributions if found...

in the case that some installations have broken WMP, any suggestion on remedies ? see you later

    tried : it says CDXA << MPEG-1 System Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }
    Sys Bitrate: 1411 kb/s VBR

and that the codecs are installed... still WMP does'nt work, while powerdvd, virtualdub and others do.....sigh...

  4. after some tweaking, the situation is better, but not perfect :
    - after a cleanup of previous codecs, and a fresh k-lite mega codec pack installation, I can view all kind of mpeg1 videos in WMP and virtualdub (but tversity still won't work with these).

I'm now annoyed by the .VOB files... every player I have installed works fine with them, but WMP doesn't (and tversity too)....it presents a black screen (without the green lines of FFDSHOW OSD).....

changing the extension from VOB to MPEG makes il playable by WMP..... where is the damn trick ?

    thanks,

VOBs are part of a Video DVD taken out of context, and not meant to be played (or done anyting else to) as a file at all. If something plays VOB files, it's because the app knows that somewhere inside the VOB is at least an mpg video stream, + an audio stream of some format.

The tversity web page says that you need to use the latest version and NOT version 0.9.10.2 because the latest version has some bug fixes for the PS3. Perhaps you just have an old version.

A lot of programs don't work very well under Vista. You might also investigate whether tversity has problems under Vista or not.

  7. thanks,

    1) I have version 0.9.11.2, since the beginning
    2) I am absolutely certain that, in my previous XP installation, I had the same problem playing VOB files with WMP, and that I solver it..

    thanks,
