  1. I am trying to convert 2 x .avi movies to vob using the above, but its so slow its unbelievable so far its taken 3 hours and only 57% when I put it on video preview the movie is moving so slow. bit by bit. what is causing this and is there any other better programs it seems to speed up a bit later but then slows down again

the preview window is showing you the frame by frame encoding, disable it, you dont need to see it, it slows the program down .

on my 1.8mhg xp machine it manages to convert at around 19fps so its takes a little over real time to convert plus the burn time.

i suggest shutting down any other programs running in the background and leave the machine to get on with it. i usually do stuff over night and then in the actions menu set it to shut down when its done

i swear by this program for when i HAVE to make dvds for others.

  3. no I don’t have the preview window open all the time as I just open it to check how far its got I have now just tried to encode 2 movies again and its only encoding at 1.4fps nothing else running I am on windows xp AMD Athlon 62 duel core proc 5000 + 2.61ghz 1.87gb ram it did start off at 2.6fps but now gone down to 1.4 so something isn’t right also just tried it on my laptop windows xp intel core cpu t5500 1.6ghz 1.99gb ram and it says 2.1fps so a bit faster but still very slow to convert just 2 movies and on laptop its converting same 2 movies on pc. but just looked at PC and its now gone up to 16.4 fps and moving up in fps now 18fps 19, 21, and moving higher 21.3 but now froze and just 5% done so why now after speeding up its froze at 5% now on move again 22.7 weird what causes this now up to 24 fps why not a constant fps

U need a Faster CPU, basically a newer machine.Comparing my Old machine Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz, HT, with my newer machine, AMD 2 core X2,4200,64 Bit,[ Overclock]. just imagine an Overclocked, Quad core, could probably fo it in 1 hour ,with 5 movies packed in a DVD.
it Cuts the time in half! Using the latest version of XtoDVD, ofcouse.

  5. yes all very well said, but some of us don’t have the money to upgrade. if I had plenty of money I would, but with PC`s as I’m sure you realise its a never ending story, you will never be better. as new CPU`s out all the time. this is so weird now as its up to 41.5 fps constant, then after a while it will slow right down, cant make things out it seems to be moving fast then freeze then starts then freeze, maybe I need to defrag my PC and laptop

edit: unbelievable now its started to convert the 2nd movie its now gone down to 1.4fps is this normal then

may be you have the encoding set to high quality, set it to medium (recommended anyway) and that may speed things up.

as i say my 1.8 mhz machine does it at around 19fps so your machine should whizz thro it. you dont need to upgrade, just to find out why its so slow. maybe take a trip to

    http://www.vso-software.fr/faq.php

and also clean up and defrag your hard drive as this will affect performance somewhat and make sure you have plenty of free disc space for the TS folders it cretaes, and also set it to delete the folder after burn if you no longer the project, it will use masses of disc space otherwise, and that wont help either if you are fragged up

my machine is athlon 1.8 and maintains a constant conversion speed no matter what i throw at it. what files are you converting to dvd?.. maybe they are the problem and not the program?

i usually convert 700mb avi files

Are these movies, or short clips?? The quality would like like crap if your trying to add SIX movies, if even possible to a DVD.

Does your player play just AVI or Divx files. If so that's what you should do, burn those files as they are without encoding them to DVD
