  1. Started ripping alot of my bluRay collection with DVDFab straight to ISO but forgot that the HDTV LIVE unit doesn't support the DDTRUEHD audio so....

Should I go ahead and re-rip the collection (only 9 so far) or is there a relatively painless way to convert to a format the WDTV supports?

    Thank you ahead of time.

You should be able to still use your digital receiver to playback in 5.1 - just like you do to playback dts - the wdtv simply passes the signal through. I have a ps3 and a regular non hd 5.1 receiver and I can play ddhd and dts hd master audio over fiber optic - it just isn't in hd audio mode but regular 5.1 audio.

However if you want to watch it on a tv without that capability you can use eac3to to downconvert to regular ac3 audio. To be safe use 448kpbs bitrate (the max allowed for dvd spec audio for dolby digital). That should retain most of the quailty of the hd audio while being decent - assuming it was originally 640kpbs audio it shouldn't be much a noticeable drop if it all - though I don't know if its a 7.1 track - you may have to force it to 5.1 - I'm not sure on that issue.

Then you would remux the new audio with something like ts muxer.

  3. I use the WDTV hdmi out which just get passed thru my receiver to my 42" LCD.

I have the optical audio from the WDTV LIVE going into my receiver and when ever a Movie starts with the WDTV reporting DDTRUEHD I get no sound. If I switch the audio track I get commentary...

Perhaps my receiver isn't able to decode DDTRUEHD?

If the signal is dts without a main movie ac3 imbedded in the signal and your receiver can't decode dts then you won't get no sound. The commentary you here is ac3,just no main movie ac3.

Best to use 640kbps ac3 cause your receiver will be able to play it.

That's certainly possible. The manual that came with it should tell you, but if you didn't keep it you may be able to find it online at the manufacturer's website. My receiver is 3 or 4 years old and it can't decode any HD audio formats. I don't remember the exact name of the setting but I set up my BluRay player to send standard AC3 or DTS to the receiver from BluRay discs instead of the HD audio and that works fine.

The op's receiver wont be able to decode dd truehd since it cant decode dts which is part of the imbedded audio in blu-ray.

Thing i like about blu-ray players is they can decode the audio before it goes to the receiver if it can't decode the audio.
