Any way to transfer recorded video from Comcast DVR to DVD with my Mac?
Will Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD Capture work or is there similar software available?
    thanks

If you want high def you can use the hauppauge hd pvr to record component and fiber optic from your cable dvr. HOWEVER I do not know if it is mac compatible. I have one but I am running Windos Vista Home Premium 32bit.

A Mac is a disadvantage in this case.

If you had access to a Windows machine, you could use CapDVHS and copy the video over the firewire port. No reeconding would be needed for SD video. Just put the copied videos in a dvd authoring program and burn. HD programs would need to be downsized and encoded for DVD.

The Firewire port works on Mac's too (Google Firewire+Cable+OSX) but Comcast here encrypts DVR stored video. Unencrypted MPeg2 TS is available for live broadcast stations and quite a list (but not all) of cable channels including many HD.

The Hauppauge HD PVR works with Leopard and Snow Leopard via EyeTV. The EyeTV software recognizes the box as a valid input device. You can record high definition content via analog with it, and the transfer will be in H.264 with either an AAC audio track or a Dolby Digital one if you're using an optical connection for the audio portion of the program. Incidentally, it ignores the latest Macrovision protection placed on content from the Comcast On Demand service.

You can also capture unencrypted MPEG2 transport streams direct from your Comcast DVR as long as the FireWire input is active. In my area, Comcast has decreased the number of boxes they distribute with FireWire ports on them.

Not only that, they are trying to recover the older boxes that have firewire on them. A few months ago they sent me mail warning me of the horrors that would happen due to a change in their service and that (gasp!) I might not get some channels unless I had one of their new boxes. I wasn't fooled and my old box, with firewire, worked fine after the change. I saw on my caller ID box that they tried several times to call me while I was at work, but now they seem to have given up.
