Hello folks.
We brought a movie DVD home from the library and got about 1/4 through when a giant scratch brought it to a screeching halt. It worked on it for a while, then started playing for a few seconds before stopping again. And again. And again...
I was wondering if there is a decrypter or something that could get it into the computer. That way, I could put it on a DVD-RW, we could watch it, then just erase the DVD-RW. (Probably hard to believe, but I don't really feel the need to keep "Fantastic 4" for my very own!)
Any ideas?
Thanks

First wash and dry the disc.
Try ISOPuzzle. It read what it can and keep retrying on the hard parts. It might make a playable image even with some glitches.
If it can't get to 100% just stop it if it seems to be not adding new data and burn the ISO (with blank bits) it makes.
Otherwise, you can try to polish the scratch a bit (don't tell the library you did that, of course).
Put it on a hard flat surface and polish with Brasso and a soft cloth, rinse clean with some dishwashing liquid, carefully dry.
It will take off some of the mirror shine, but that won't affect readability that I've noticed.
Worth a try as it's f***ed already.
And yeah, it's pretty dumb movie, don't sweat it. Get Watchmen.

There is a forum rule that requires you two self-important jerks to form a kangaroo court and lecture everyone on the evils of copyright piracy --- even though it's quite clear that even the most rabid RIAA type enforcer wouldn't waste his time on this trivial hypothetical infraction?
Give yourself a merit badge.
My point is that if you TRULY BELIEVE that a rule has been broken, just report it and leave a REAL moderator to decide.

Oh no, you can't let anyone else claim credit for your "collar" can you?
Since you've both thoroughly poisoned any discussion here, I'll unsubscribe and leave you to it.
