While searching for a DVD player in Europe, I can not find many players listed in the region hack archives on this site. Are the model numbers different here or is there little hack info submitted by contributors here? Anyone know of a competent source of hacks and other info based in Europe? Languishing in Region 2 and desperate to watch my Region 1 library

In general, Pioneer and Philips have always been the easiest DVD players to hack. That doesn't mean that there aren't models by both that can't be hacked, but in general a large number of their players do have hack codes. Sony and Samsung are probably right now the most difficult to hack with only a very small number of their players being able to be hacked.

Please note that very few BluRay players have codes to make DVD playback region free and no BluRay player can be made region free for BluRay playback without having modified hardware installed. Some BluRay players are sold as region free, such as Hitecker in Europe, but those have been modified by the seller. You can probably count on one or at most two hands the number of BluRay players that can be made region free for DVD playback. So you are wise to look for a DVD player and not a BluRay player if you want it to be region free.

    jman98,
Absolutely true. I bought two identical Toshibas here 18 months ago and both lasers just died.
I have found a Philips from an internet store in Italy that has an easy hack. Unfortunetly, many players are from off-brand sources or Sonys and Samsungs. I'll probably get the Philips and hope for the best. Don't have any BluRay in my library so that eliminates a hurdle. thanks for the feedback.
