Hiya folks!

I'm really stumped by a problem I'm having, I was wondering if you folks could help. I've stuck it in here as I suspect it is a conversion problem, if it turns out not to be, I do apologise.

What it is, I'm using Pinnacle Studio 14 to edit a video. I've got one source which are .mod files in normal resolution from a hard disk camera, and another which is a newer AVCHD camera that gives me M2TS files. I'm only making a DVD and I can't edit M2TS easily so what I'm doing is converting the files over to MPEG. At first was using iSkySoft's converter, only to find that the software was adding an additional widescreen black band to my footage that I did not want (I'm editing a widescreen project so I do expect the bands, but this software seems to double them making the image in the centre smaller than it should be) . It should be noted, however, that the converted footage did work just fine and did play back smoothly.

In trying to get rid of the additional band I found that I didn't need to convert the MOD files, I could just use the originals and the aspect ratio and etc all looked fine and indeed once burned to DVD these sections play back smoothly. To convert the M2TS files I simply started dropping them into the timeline individually and rendering them out to MPEG2 in Studio. They now look fine on the timeline and play back great, and play back just great when rendered to MPEG2 as part of the scene. However when I burn them to DVD, using Studio or just taking an MPEG from studio and using DVD lab to burn, the scenes from the M2TS files (AVCHD camera) all look skittery and jumpy and generally are hard to watch. The only way I have found to make them watchable is to burn to disc within Studio and select to both rerender all clips every time and for progressive encoding (not one or the other, both have to be ticked). This is a problem for me however as I prefer not to use Studio for my menus etc! I feel I must have done something wrong - can anyone help me out/has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks for your time folks!
