    Hello,

I'm creating my own collection of TV reports, movies, and so forth. I'd like to remove commercials from the beginning, from the middle, and from the end of the show. I found a number of tutorials on the web, including one on VideoHelp, but to date I'm still unable to get satisfactory results. Here's the list of problems I have encontered so far: My video is rejected (VideoDub), my output video is taking forever to be resampled (Adobe Premiere), or it uses a huge amount of space with nothing to watch (MPEG Video Wizard DVD). If you could help me, I would appreciate it. I suspect the source file in general has a problem. It's saved from either VLC or DVBViewer. Here's a sample 30-sec file. I'd like to know if there's an MPEG error in its content and if you're able to remove parts of the video, like 5 seconds at the beginning, 5 seconds in the middle and 5 seconds in the end, without losing video quality. If you're able to do so with my sample, please let me know how you did.
    Thank you,

Assuming this is a typical sample, the file itself has index issues. Loading the sample into AVI Demux prompted it to point out that it looked like an mpeg file (but obviously isn't clearly marked as one) and that it needed the index rebuilt. Once rebuilt, I could trim it without any problems. It also plays back correctly after have having the index built and being resaved.

I suspect that if you used VideRedo, and ran it through the stream fix first, you could trim it to your heart's content.

I have attached a (roughly) edited version of your sample clip. Note : You will get cleaner cuts from VideoRedo that from AVI Demux, and won't be restricted to key frames

  3. Mpg2Cut2 had no problems with your sample. But it only allows cuts on I frames.

I tried VideoRedo, it worked fine trimming the file, thanks
Can it also rebuild the index? How could I do that?
    Thanks!

VideoRedo has a stream fix function in one of the menus (can't remember the exact name of it)

  6. Womble MPEG Video Wizard should also work (cut on any frame, only cut GOPs reencoded). They have free giveaways now and then.

    Hi guys,

I'm having an issue when the file is in HD, I get this sort of error message in VideoRedo:

"H.264/AVC video streams are not yet supported"

Same problem in Avidemux. Any suggestion, please?

  8. I think VideoRedo has a beta with AVC support. For keyframe only cutting of AVC you can try h264TsCutter or TsSniper.

When I edit an MPEG-TS file in AviDemux, and save it, it is unreadable in Windows Media Player (the player freezes), and DVBViewer (the file isn't recognizable). Could you take a look at the edited file and tell me what's wrong, please?
    Thanks.

  11. Your container is AVI. Set AviDemux to output an MPEG PS or MPEG TS file instead.

I'm still having problems: in Avidemux, when I edit a MPG file, sound is always out of sync. If I offset it in the beginning to sync properly, later in the movie, it's still out of sync. If I offset it later in the movie to sync, it's out of sync in the beginning of the movie

Also, I can't edit HD videos, Avidemux crashes.

Could you help me please? Thanks.
