  1. Hello there, i am fairly new to the whole video editing and capturing scene. i make call of duty videos and put them on youtube using a capture card. i have been told to use virtual dub to capture the video, because i have a mini laptop and it does not have the screen resolution for the software on the easycap CD...of course. When i used virtualdub it seemed fine until i tried to open up the captured clip on vegas. when i opened the clip and placed it in the trimmer it only showed the audio and it said the video media was offline, but when i went back to my documents and played the clip through windows media player, it played great, sound, video, and all. Im not sure what to do about the video not showing up in vegas, ive heard rumors about using codecs but again i am very new to this stuff. Can somebody more experienced help a n00b like me. Thanks.

look up vegas's allowed input formats and use mediainfo to see if your capture format is one of them.

Hint: Options > preferences > uncheck "close media files when not the active application > apply > ok

Usually for Vegas if you have the sound and not the video you are indeed missing a codec. If you did not do so already, save the video in Virtualdub into the AVI format, and that should work.
