  1. I want make a long video of a single large photo, that very slowly pans and zooms in on specific areas, in one large continious motion (basically, focus on one detail, then another, etc.) Ideally, it'd be nice to make a movie file out of this (mpeg, avi, etc.)

I've been hunting for free software for several days (for a Windows PC), and can't seem to find anything that does this.

Can anyone recommend some free (or at least cheap) software that can do this?

    Thanks!

Normally I would do this in Vegas Pro and use Track Motion and key frames to move everything around. However this is neither free nor cheap if you don't already have it.

You could use something like Photostory, which gives you some control over pans and zooms, however you would have to reload the same photo multiple times as you get one move per photo. I suspect that this will be a common problem with most slideshow tools, as they expect you will be showing a series of images, not just moving around the same image.

Wax2 will do this , output as avi and simply re-encode using favorite mpeg encoder ... easy and free

  4. Thanks for the help! I tried looking at Wax2 and played around with it some. My main question is this: Which filter should I use to do the zooming and scaling?

    And thanks again!

  5. You can also do that in DVD slideshow GUI with the animation tool.

NB: Project Settings > Animation Quality > Export: the higher value the higher quality when ex. zooming into images.
